Sagewell doesn’t have shareholders. What we earn
goes back into the people we serve–into staffing,
into buildings, into the benevolent care fund that
keeps a resident home when their savings run out.
We were founded in 1886 as a Lutheran orphanage on the outskirts of Jamestown. The need changed; the commitment didn’t.Over 140 years we became a home for older adults, a licensed foster care and adoption agency, and an employer of hundreds of people from Chautauqua County.
In 2026, we broughtall of it under one name. Read more on the about page.
